Just what is Traditional Chinese Medicine?
There are many ancient systems of science and medicine that have enlightened, educated and sustain us as a civilization for thousands of years. For instance, the next time you look at your watch (an ancient system of numbers thousands of years old) and decide to its time for a tea or coffee break (herbals with stimulants used for thousands of years) you have been educated and therapeutically treated by time proven, ancient systems.
Traditional Chinese Medicine is an ancient MEDICAL system that is based on a deep understanding of the laws and patterns of nature and applies them to the human body. Traditional Chinese Medicine is definitely not “new age” – it is a revered, time tested “ancient age” medical paradigm.
At its heart is the tenet that the root cause of a condition, not just its symptoms, must be treated to provide relief or healing. In modern day terms it is “holistic.” It takes into consideration body, mind, spirit, emotions, lifestyle, and relationships.
How does it treat this full circle of the human experience? By utilizing the many modalities of the Chinese Medical system of which acupuncture is the most familiar. Chinese Medicine gets to the root of the problem by understanding the quality of the Qi or “vital energy” in the body and by identifying and re-establishing the relationship of two forces of nature in the body, Yin and Yang.
The ideal therapy is to create a free flow of Qi by re-establishing the proper relationship of Yin and Yang. When this is accomplished or imbalances and improper relationships are minimized, health or wellness is realized.
Has this been helpful? If not, or to assist your understanding further, you really need to experience treatment - just as you need to experience time to understand the clock and have some tea or a warm cup of coffee to experience the therapeutic relief and pleasure they can give to an exhausted soul.
